JSSMVP establishes JSS Institute of Speech and Hearing, Dharwad
JSS Mahavidyapeetha has been involved in the rehabilitation of the differently abled population for the past several years and has established several institutions in this regard. Among them, JSS Institute of Speech and Hearing, Mysuru, has been striving to provide quality education, to prepare efficient speech-language pathologists and audiologists and to offer effective rehabilitative care for the speech and hearing disabled since 2001.
Though there are a handful of training institutions for speech and hearing in Mysuru, Bengaluru and Mangaluru, there is a scarcity of students hailing from the Northern part of Karnataka. This might be because the students of this area, are not aware of these
unique training programmes and the bright career prospects that they offer. Also, the cost involved in pursuing these courses out of their hometown might seem cumbersome to them. Thus, the number of specialists (Speech-language pathologists and who can treat patients with speech and hearing disorders are very meagre in these districts, leaving numerous patients in agony.
Hence, considering these points, JSS Mahavidyapeetha has established its second JSS Institute of Speech and Hearing, Dharwad since 2014, which is based on similar lines of the institution established at Mysuru. The objective of this institution is to offer Bachelor of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (BASLP) course to provide an opportunity to students to pursue their graduation in the field of Speech and Hearing and also to serve the speech and to hear disabled population of Northern Karnataka region. Clinical activities are carried out in this institution along with assessment and treatment of various communication disorders using state of the art facilities.
This institute is affiliated to Karnatak University, Dharwad, and is recognised by Rehabilitation Council of India, Govt. of India.
